There are many schools and theories of acupuncture. The one that is more focused on the interrelation between body, mind and spirit (emotions) is the 5 Element (or 5 Phases) theory.
The five elements are wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each one, resonates with a season of the year, a colour, a sound, a smell, a taste, an emotion, two internal organs, a sense organ, a part of the body, a climate and a direction.
Each of us has all five elements, but we have a primary imbalance in one of them, which is known as the Causative Factor (CF). Our CF or guardian element, gives us certain strengths and weaknesses that resonate with that element.
The basic idea of the 5 Element theory is that if one treats and balances their primary imbalance, the core and root of all issues, then health is achieved to a deeper level and the person feels much better in themselves.
